#1 RELATIONSHIPS OF A GIRL

I have come across this powerful post written by a young woman who I believe lives in India. I understand all her questions but can’t think of one answer I could give her that would help her to feel less trapped. I don’t have many followers, but maybe among you there is someone who can open a door to hope for her.

  1. I can relate to this. I have/am going through all these phases in life. There is one thing I can tell Shalini is that the only person she has to be is who she wants to be. To be very honest being a teenager is kinda hard. Sometimes painful too. Yes, in India boys are usually favoured over girls. And things are changing but at the speed of a turtle. We (Shalini and I) as teenagers can’t go around asking people to change their mentality. But what we can do is do our part in stopping discrimination from happening. By taking small steps at homes, schools/colleges, etc. We can start by saying that’s not funny to a sexist joke. This is just an example. We are spreading awareness by talking about it, openly discussing it. And as she rightfully said we have to do our part to bring change. To bring the change, we have to be the change. And I promise you if we all do our part, then equality will not seem that far away. Yes, one person may seem too small to bring change. But we need to remember that it is tiny drops of water that make an ocean.

    1. Thank you Tanya. I believe the goal of equality for women has had more success in some cultures and countries than others, but the practice of male dominance is still common to all of them, even to my own. Your spirit and resolve seem strong. I hope they influence everyone you know and meet.

I think women have a long way to go. Nevertheless we can be the change and someday we’ll be able to change some cultures. Someday in a long time. I strongly believe that women’s rights and men’s rights some day will be people’s right, equality. Xox Richard. Nice to read you!

  3. I have lived the consequences of making self-actualized choices in America for a l-o-n-g time now, rather than living according to the expectations of a male-dominated, neurotypical society. Neither choice is an easy one – and I’m not sure I have changed a single closed mind on the topic, despite a great deal of time and effort.

But I CAN and will do my part to add to your limited number of followers.
